What is this place?
We are a creative reuse center. We take in donations of things that businesses and folks don't want any more. Then we clean all those things up and offer them for sale. We used to also offer lots of cool classes, host art shows, parties and events, but Covid.
WHO WOULD WANT ALL OF THIS STUFF?
More people than you can imagine. There is no limit to the creativity in the arts and crafting communities, and that creativity is fueled by ready access to high quality materials in sufficient quantity and at great prices. And, until the artists and materials find each other at the Texas Art Asylum, we are happy to clear them out of your way.
WHERE IS YOUR STORE/DONATION CENTER?
We are conveniently located in the EaDo area, just east of downtown, at 1719 Live Oak, Houston, Texas 77003.
HOW DOES THIS WORK?
Well, it's just like any other store, except everything we offer for sale has a past! In the long, skinny part of the store, everything is priced as marked.
In the big room, most items are priced by the pound -- $8/pound, that is -- with a one pound minimum. This includes cool stuff like art supplies, craft supplies, scrapbooking supplies, rubber stamps and so much more.
Want to feel like Richie Rich? Take home some jewelry, beads, yarn, fine art supplies or ephemera for $12/pound. For those in the back — YARN BY THE POUND.
Loose paper -- scrapbooking, construction and copy paper -- is $3/pound. So is stained glass!
Final weight is determined at the register.
Items not priced by the pound are things like:
Cabinet cards and other exquisite ephemera
Fabric, which is $4/yard
Books are $3 each, or priced as marked
House paint and spray paint, which is priced as marked
Other stupidly heavy things like rocks, bricks, some books, uranium, etc
ARE MY DONATIONS TAX DEDUCTIBLE?
Yes! Donations by individuals are tax deductible through our nonprofit community partner, the Houston Center for Creative Reuse.
WHEN DO YOU ACCEPT DONATIONS?
We accept donations from the public by appointment on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Check the calendars on the Shop or Donate tab above for available dates/times. We do not accept donations on other days so we can attempt to get caught up on previous donations.
WHAT ABOUT BUSINESS DONATIONS?
We accept donations from businesses through a separate process, but it also starts with the Shop or Donate tab above. Request a donation time that’s convenient for your business, give some idea of what you’re bringing, and we will be back in touch with you ASAP to confirm.
DO YOU HAVE/WILL YOU TAKE ... ?
The answer to this question is always changing. The best thing to do is call and ask!
