Oh. Emm. Gee.

This is the greatest job  ever.  Look at this.  Do you know what it is?

It’s someone’s reading list, I would guess.  But whose?  Let’s look on the other side, shall we?

It’s the reading list of  Lizzie K. Miller, from September 24, 1894.  That’s EIGHTEEN NINETY-FOUR, people!  It’s a reading list from 116 years ago, when Lizzie K. Miller was in Grade 9, and it’s in my hands right now, having fallen from an old book.  Amazing.  They call this kind of stuff ephemera because it was not made to last forever.  I guess this list found a good home inside that book, though, and here it is.  Just amazing.

And, nice handwriting there, Lizzie.

I LOVE THIS!!!!! I’ve read everyone of your posts, back to The Beginning (did you ever hang tree-climber kitten, BTW, or are you just All Bluff?) and was just about rolling on the floor, laughing out loud. (Not that I actually can ROF,LOL you understand, since I’m at work and they Frown on that sort of thing.)

Your shop sounds wonderful and my girlfriend and I will be up there this Saturday to Meet You In Person and wander joyously through the aisles!!!!

Eric — Hmmmm. More like one of those books you think you’re supposed to keep and will make you look smart for having it on your bookshelf. It’s a Latin grammar textbook.

And, we’ve got doll heads, arms legs, voice boxes, and everything else ready and waiting for you!

  4. Ramona Says:

Thanks, Robbie. I can’t believe you read the whole thing. The very first post started out as an email to a friend of mine, and he pointed out that it could just as well start the blog I had been talking about doing, and here we are! And, all kittens survived unscathed. I’m an old softy.

Look forward to meeting you on Saturday.

Ah, for those lovely lost days when penmanship was considered an art.

Sorry I missed your grand opening last weekend! My sisters twisted my arm into visiting Austin for the annual Pun-Off at the O. Henry Museum. I hear my folks made it over there though.

  6. Ramona Says:

Yes, David, your parents did come by. They are both lovely people. I’m sure you had fun at the pun-off, though. Hope to see you soon.

I cannot wait to come over and see your store today!!! I am a book artist and use old recycled stuff like this. This is a choice piece of ephemera.

Isn’t is fun to find things like this? That’s a great find.
I bought a Victorian glue book a while back. It was a book of engraved pictures that a girl or young woman had glued articles and calling cards in, afixing them to the blank pages opposite the engravings. The coolest thing was an invitation to a whooping cough party. It was dated 1917 I believe. The idea behind these parties was that if you knew someone who had a mild case of an illness you would expose your children to them in the belief that they would get a mild case that would protect them from a deadly case. Kind of do it yourself innoculation. Thanks goodness for antibiotics and modern medicine.
